Amanda's Season Gets into High Gear

Amanda plays in tournaments with the U16 Girls team and the Squirt A team.  As luck would have it, both of Amanda's teams had out of state games scheduled for the same weekend in the Denver Colorado Metro area.

VOSHA U16 show well in Colorado at the "Chill on the Hill" Tournament!

The Girls U16 team started the weekend (Nov10th) @ 6:50 AM with a 1-1 tie versus the Colorado Selects.  Then they got back on the ice @ 10:30 AM to defeat the Colorado Springs Independents U16 girls team 3-0.  On Saturday Nov 11th,  the U16s WON 1-0 vs. the Colorado Springs Independents.  This set up a nice rematch with the Colorado Selects at 7:00pm that evening.   The game was very close with the VOSHA Girls getting the first goal of the game.  The Selects rebounded and got two goals of their own to take the lead.

Midway through the the third period Amanda put in a hard angle shot from the right side of the net to tie the game at 2-2  for her team.  This was Amanda's first scoring contribution to the team.  Man, did she get fired up after that!  The remainder of the game got very physical and the Colorado selects were able to net one more puck and win the game 3-2.

These two teams would be at it again on  mid morning on Nov 12th for the Championship game. Again it was a hard fought game.  The score remained 0-0 until the 3:20 mark of the third period.  The Selects were able to get a slow motion puck to cross the line and win the game.  The girls played awesome and were the Runner's Up.

VOSHA Squirt Team goes to Colorado!

Coach Shapiro set up six Squirt games These were all  scrimmages against Denver area Squirt A teams.

Amanda went on after her first Girls game Nov 10th, and joined up with her Squirt Team in Westminster Colorado to play one of the two games she would be able to make that didn't conflict with her girls team tournament.  Unfortunately, the Squirts lost this game against a very talented and well coached Hyland Hills Jaguars team, 6-1.

Amanda then rejoined her Squirt team between girls games on Nov 11.  The Squirts were playing at Denver University against the Denver University Jr Pioneers A.  This time the Mustangs were able to get a Victory and won the game 4-2. Amanda had an Assist in this game.  Unfortunately the remainder of Amanda's U16 team tournament schedule didn't permit her to be able to hook up with her Squirt team in their remaining three games of their weekend.

VOSHA Squirt Team Runners Up at Thanksgiving Day Tournament in Peoria!

At this point in the season, Coach Shapiro hadn't quite figured out what kind of player he had in Amanda.  He knew she could play, and had played all the positions on the ice.  He used her exclusively as a defensive tool.  Although this was not Amanda's first choice of where to play on the ice, Amanda took on the task and did very well at it as a stay at home defenseman.  She really showed well against her old Peoria Team mates on the Roadrunners.  She really had their numbers as she proved to them and herself, that she never should have been cut from that team two seasons ago!
